Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority (KPUMA) has been established under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mass Transit Act, notified vide No. PA/KP/Bills/2016/11392 dated 24/10/2016. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority has been established for the purpose of Planning, establishing, coordinating and regulating mass transit system and supporting systems and Urban Transport Companies for coordinating, constructing, developing, operating and maintaining mass transit system and supporting systems. Carrying out all ancillary functions thereto for providing safe, efficient, comfortable, affordable, sustainable and reliable forms of mass transit system and supporting systems. Making provisions for matters connected herewith or incidental thereto. A recent accomplishment of KPUMA is the BRT operationalization in Peshawar. KPUMA is focused to plan and implement an affordable, competitive, and accessible transportation system. The future developmental plan includes the implementation of Mass Transit Plan in Mingora, Swat and Abbottabad with the assistance of International Finance Institution, Asian Development Bank (ADB). KPUMA intends to prepare Mass Transit Plans for other cities of KP for the next five years. The Authority implements the policies to ensure that the safety and quality standards of Mass Transit Systems are up to the mark. It examines the infrastructure plans to ensure suitability and compatibility with the future projects. KPUMA functions include assignment and management of the declared project to Mass Transit Companies, maintaining the currency of the assigned project, providing accreditation certification to trained drivers, ensuring effective protection of the property, arranging training session to the employees of the authority, and submitting an annual report to the government.
